1. Home sick today

I woke up in the middle of the night with a swolen, sore throat, so I stayed home from work today. And I’ve discovered a few limitations to my wired, urban lifestyle.

First, all I have to drink in the house is coffee, cream, and water, none of which is very comforting or healing to a throat that’s en fuego. My normal response to this is to walk the 6 blocks to the grocery store, but, y’know, I think I’d rather just lie here on the couch.

Although I do have whiskey. And rum. Hmmm. Too bad I have no brandy in the house; a nice smooth sweet thick glass of brandy would be nice. Hey, maybe I am a drunk after all!

Second, I just want to lie here on the couch, and I’ve realized that since I get all my TV from the internet, I can’t just put it on a channel and let the banal passively wash over me. No, I have to actively select a program, watch it, and then dig around in menus to select something else. Internet-based TV is much like music today: less about grouping topics by subject matter and filling large time slot (a TV channel, say, or an album) and more about individual chunks (a TV show, movie, or hit single).

And now I know I’m feeling ill, because I’ve descended into hey-you-kids-get-off-my-lawn mode. I’ll just take a nap now.
