I thought I’d share this video, a small section of a larger Dungeons & Dragons adventure that was run at PAX Prime 2010 in Seattle. Chris Perkins, a writer/designer from Wizards of the Coast, DM’ed Wil Wheaton, Mike Krahulik & Jerry Holkins of “Penny Arcade”, and Scott Kurtz of “PvP”, in front of a live audience.
In this segment, the adventurers have found a portal to… somewhere. The exchanges in this video made me laugh until tears came.
If you’d rather watch the whole thing from the beginning, Part 1 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqXqK3ZlqWI
and the remaining 9 parts should appear in YouTube’s sidebar as related videos.
Some folks may not “get” the idea of watching other people play D&D, but for me it’s one of the best things about the internet circa 2010. Watching how other DMs interact with their players and seeing how they treat the mechanics of the game gives me insights into the decisions I make when I run my own game. It’s fascinating; and that’s not to say that I view other groups as “wrong” and my ways as “right” - we’re just all doing different things.
Enjoy. Maybe someday I’ll record my group’s games for everyone to see; I think we’re easily as funny as any other group out there.
