Your hair more blonde than the auburn it was
I watched you approach as my friend was talking to me about something related to the labor union march we had both just participated in. I don’t know, I tuned him out. Your face and your bearing struck me and I could not take my eyes off your face. You walked up, stood next to us, your eyes intently on the screen, looking at the time or the schedule being displayed. Not once did your eyes...

“The key thing here is that critiques like Schoen’s are designed to get people to...”
– Greg Sargent, “What Occupy Wall Street’s critics are really trying to accomplish”, 10/18/2011 Or as I like to translate critics: “Occupy Wall Street will never grow as a movement until they convince people like me to stop criticizing them.” Many of the people who claim...

Organon: To all those men who don't think the rape... →
charnanigans: oforganon: I get it—you’re a decent guy. I can even believe it. You’ve never raped anybody. You would NEVER rape anybody. You’re upset that all these feminists are trying to accuse you of doing something, or connect you to doing something, that, as far as you’re concerned, you’ve never done and would never… I will never ever be able to emphasize how important and dead-on this...

Victoria Taft, the ball's in her court
Victoria Taft, local conservative radio host, tweeted the following this morning: You couldn’t block the street for TParty w/o a permit but you can for this. http://tinyurl.com/4x5vpou “This” being the OccupyPortland campsite in Chapman Square. I couldn’t resist pointing out what I see as a difference between the Tea Party policies and the general sense (not really a...

Nothing less than spectacular
My friend Athena has been having some actual, successful dates lately, and part of it, I think, is that she’s realizing how hard it must be to actually date her, combined with finally finding men who are OK with that. I’m glad she’s having fun, and I’m glad that she’s having fun with someone who seems to “get” her, because she’s awesome. What...

The White House on #OccupyWallStreet
Just for shits and giggles, I’m going to collect the official statements of White House officials on the growing #OccupyWallStreet movement. If I’ve missed any, please share and I’ll update this post. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, 3 October 2011: I haven’t discussed it with him. I’m sure he’s aware of it because he follows the news. I would simply say that, to the...

Protestors trapped and mass arrests on Brooklyn... →
coffeeshakes: I’m safe, but hundreds of people are being arrested on top of the Brooklyn Bridge. The cops took the men first and are now taking the women. They are arresting people for walking in the traffic lane after cops USHERED THEM THERE THEMSELVES.  We started in huge numbers and only a few hundred of us made it safely to the other side of the bridge and disbanded. PLEASE REBLOG.
